Tribute to Cecil Purnell
A man whose passion was for precision
It was in early twentieth-century Besançon, the Jura of France, that young Cecil Purnell became fascinated by the intricacy of mechanical movements. The precision and elegance of the centuries old Tourbillon resonated in Cecil Purnell’s soul as an ineffable reminder of the nobility of man in a world recovering from the ravages of a devastating world war. Thenceforth began a lifelong quest in pursuit of an ever-higher appreciation for that which gave life to his imagination: the Tourbillon as the epitome of watchmaking expertise, precision and beuaty.
A man whose life was an inspiration
The extraordinary life of this gentleman of refined taste and civility left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him, especially his grandson Jonathan. Inspired by his grandfather’s remarkable life and fascination with the Tourbillon, Jonathan dedicated his life to honouring the name that is synonymous today with the finest of Swiss luxury timepieces. Cecil Purnell’s legacy continues as great grandson Nikolas perpetuates this outstanding tradition.
The inaugural Geneva Time Exhibition (GTE) in 2010 provided the ideal event for Cecil Purnell to unveil its first in-house calibre. Consequently, Cecil Purnell has strived to unveil a new original creation every year thereafter, and continues to develop uniquely distinguishable complications.
Reigning among those watches set apart by quality and immaculate aesthetics, CP’s traditional calibres maintain a central-axis Tourbillon between two bridges as befits a traditional Tourbillon, thus affording greater visibility of its intricate movement. Cecil Purnell’s calibres prioritize reliability, precision and regularity, strictly adhering to traditional Haute Horlogerie standards. CP is also one of few brands that is completely transparent as to all our components. CP watches are 100% Swiss, with all but a few components fabricated in house. The origin of each component of our movements is detailed at the link below.
The Cecil Purnell Atelier
Following its founding in Alle (Jura), Cecil Purnell selected Geneva Switzerland, as its base of operations. As an important watch industry hub, Cecil Purnell decided to develop its atelier in proximity to key partners.
As a micro-manufacture, Cecil Purnell is able to add value from the very conception of a timepiece, to its assembly, in each exquisite detail, right up to its culmination as a unique masterpiece for generations to come. Founders Jonathan Purnell and Stephane Valsamides, its trusted timepiece ambassadors and committed visionaries keep guiding the brand to continuously challenge itself to ever further milestones towards an ageless evolution in flawless execution of haute horology.
